How do I backup my SharePoint Server?

To backup your MS SharePoint Server,

  1. Log into IDrive desktop application and click the 'Server Backup' tab.
  2. Under the MS SharePoint Server section, click 'Backup'.


  1. Select the websites, applications from the list which appears and specify the local backup location.
  2. Select Online Backup or Local Backup radio button, and click Schedule Now.

    Note: Once local backup is initiated, '.ServerBackup' folder is auto created.



  1. The 'Schedule backup' screen is displayed where you can schedule the backup for any future day and time or perform an immediate backup of the selected websites.

Yes. IDrive's granular restore capability enables you to restore single item (document library), folder or web-sites to the same site or a different site.

How do I restore my MS SharePoint Server?

  1. Log into IDrive desktop application and click the 'Restore' tab.
  2. Locate and select the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder in your IDrive account.
  3. Click the 'Restore Now' button, to restore the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder to the local computer.
  4. Once the folder has been successfully restored, click the 'Server Backup' tab.
  5. Under MS SharePoint Server section, click 'Restore.'


  1. Browse and choose the 'IDSharePointBkset' folder (restored earlier from your IDrive account).


  1. The 'SharePoint Server backup/restore' screen is displayed. Select the web-sites you want to restore and click the 'Restore' button.

How do I backup 12, 14, 15 and 16 hive folders of SharePoint Server?

You can manually backup 12, 14, 15, and 16 hive folders by selecting them from SharePoint server location using IDrive. The probable location will be SharePoint Server installation folder as mentioned below.
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\

Does IDrive - SharePoint backup perform the backup of external dependencies like /_layouts/images/?

No. These external dependency files ( /_layout/image/ ) are available in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\IMAGES" path. You can select the files / folders from the above path and back them to your IDrive account.
